We believe that learning to teach a classroom full of students is best achieved through hands-on experience. Throughout their course, trainees will understand the dynamics of a real classroom. As well as this, they’re able to put their theoretical learning into practice in schools from the 3rd week of the programme.

At The John Taylor SCITT, we emphasise the importance of practical experience. Our trainees spend four out of five days each week on placement, teaching real classes. This approach ensures they are well-prepared and helps to build their confidence in the classroom from day one.

Many of our trainees find this aspect of the SCITT programme really appealing, as it allows them to get stuck in straight away. By the time they begin teaching full-time, they are well-versed in high-quality teaching methods. Moreover, it means they are adept at handling unexpected situations and face fewer surprises when they enter the classroom.

We know that ease of travel is a crucial factor for many of our trainees. For this reason, we ensure that our placement schools are also conveniently located. By partnering with placement schools within accessible distances, we minimise the stress and time associated with commuting.

As a result, our trainees can focus more on their professional development and less on any logistical challenges. This makes for a more enjoyable training experience.
