Welcome to Teacher Training with JTSCITT
This blog welcomes our new trainees to the JTSCITT, sharing more about our approach, our personalised support and building a teaching career.
Starting something new, especially a career in teaching, can be intimidating. At JTSCITT, we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment from the very beginning, including during the application process. However, we understand that it can still feel daunting.
To ease your concerns, we reached out to some of our alumni for their insights and advice. They have successfully navigated the entire process and are now in the midst of successful teaching careers.
“If you aren’t sure about applying, contact the SCITT as they can set up school experience days. We have had visitors in my own school and this has supported applicants.
And to send the application in, you absolutely will not regret it, even the interview process is welcoming and supportive.”
If you’re on the fence about applying, take advantage of the opportunity to get a firsthand experience of a school setting. These school experience days provide a valuable glimpse into what your day-to-day as a teacher will look like and can be a great confidence booster.
And remember, the application process itself is designed to be a positive experience. Even if you decide not to pursue a teaching career at the end of it, you will gain experiences that will help you in future application processes.
“It links to the most valuable lesson that I learned but it is to be open to everything. Try new things, get involved in everything you can and take opportunities when you are given them. Your training year is the best time to experiment, and this is something that the JTSCITT champions. I would also say that there are huge benefits to trainees that train within a school because you get a true sense of what your day-to-day job will look like.”
We really push the importance of embracing every experience during your training year at the JTSCITT; it’s a time for growth, experimentation, and discovery.
We encourage our trainees to get involved in all aspects of school life, helping you build a strong foundation for your teaching career. Being immersed in the school environment from the start also provides invaluable insight into what the role entails beyond the classroom.
“Throw everything at it and enjoy the experience. Do not be afraid to ask for support if you need it because it will always be there.”
The training process is meant to challenge and develop you, but we do not expect you to do it alone. Support is always available, so never hesitate to reach out when you need help. It’s important that you commit to the experience and take advantage of the guidance on offer – you’ll get the most out of your training year.
Starting your teaching journey can be daunting, but with advice like this from those who’ve already been through the process, you can approach it with confidence. Remember, JTSCITT is here to support you every step of the way, from application to classroom, and beyond too!
Take that first step – our alumni think it was worth it…
